Site Information

All about this site in the form of a FAQ-type thingy
  1. Why does this site exist?
  2. This site is intended for people who want to visit movie locations in the UK.

  3. I imagine you must have some kind of disclaimer, like on all those proper sites?
  4. Yes, I do! Although I endeavor to make the site as accurate as I can, I can't guarantee that any of the information contained within is actually true, or fit for any purpose. If you travel all the way from China to visit a location and it turns out not to exist, well, I'm truly sorry, but it's not my problem. Also, some of the locations listed here are on private property which is not open to the public. Do not trespass - if you break the law, any consequences are entirely your fault. Also, if you try to visit a location and find that you are denied access, then it's not my fault either. Basically, anything unpleasant which happens as a result of you using this site is nothing to do with me. :)

  5. Why include locations which are not open to the public?
  6. Well, a location might not be open to the public, but you may find that you can get access under certain situations. For instance Heatherden Hall on the Pinewood Studios site is not open to the public, but you can book it for weddings, so you could find yourself there under contrived circumstances.

  7. Who runs this site?
  8. This site was created and is run entirely by Paul Plowman in Manchester, England.

  9. How is it funded?
  10. I have a full time job!

  11. Why was it created?
  12. Several reasons - I am really interested in film-making and I love the UK, and I had already started a database of locations so that if I ever went somewhere I'd be able to visit them. Also, I wanted to learn PHP, and would like a job in web-programming, and thought that this would be a good display of my abilities. Also, I thought that no one else had done a similar site which did what I wanted. etc.. etc..

  13. What's the difference between "Aerial" and "Aerial -ish" photos?
  14. Originally I used Streetmap for all my coordinates. When I included aerial photos, I had to switch to longitude and latitude coordinates, which I obtained by running a conversion algorithm on my old coordinates. It turns out that aerial photo services like GoogleEarth and MS VirtualEarth are far more accurate than Streetmap. So "Aerial -ish" use coordinates which have been converted (and are probably accurate to about 100 metres), and "Aerial" have been corrected to point to the exact position (accurate to about 5 metres).

  15. What does the little "R" mean in the corner of the screenshot?
  16. A little "R" signifies that there is a "Real-life" photo of the same location - ie. a photo which I, or someone else, has taken from the same place. Go to the larger screenshot and you should see two buttons under it which allow you to compare "Real" and "Movie" images. See here for an example.

  17. Why are certain films missing actor info, or poster images?
  18. Adding this stuff is very time consuming, I'm afraid! It will eventually be done!

  19. This is "UK Onscreen", but you have included things in Ireland and The Isle Of Man - for God's sake, why?
  20. I know, I know. Neither the Republic Of Ireland nor the Isle Of Man are actually in the UK. The thing is, they are both very close, and I wanted to include them, but there isn't a term which encompasses Britain, Ireland, and the Isle Of Man.

  21. What if my question has not been answered by this so-called FAQ?
  22. I suggest that you use the contact page to ask me your question directly!
